Another year is going to close it’s doors, and Happy New Year 2020 will open before us. For many, this past year was undoubtedly full of many challenges. Regardless of how you faced these obstacles, whether you succeeded or failed in overcoming them, they also came with the wisdom of valuable life lessons. Each obstacle came with it’s own unique gift. Each darkness also held within it Light. It may not have seemed so initially. However, with retrospect and compassion for ourselves, we can move through disappointment to uncover the wisdom and strength offered us by the experience.
Regardless of how filled your year was with challenges, each day also brought much to get grateful for. This New Year’s Eve, before leaping into another set of resolutions, take the time to pause and reflect on the year gone by. Give yourself a great gift of time for reflection, and time sit with yourself and review previous months. See how far you’ve come. See how wonderful you are, how resourceful, and just how beautiful. Review that which was accomplished. List the numerous stuff you were grateful for. List the successes you might have had.
Take a look at set of desires for last year, including everything you did not accomplish. Think about whether those goals were vital that you you. Were they based upon your opinion you “should” do, or did they come from your heart’s dreams? Could they be worth putting back about this year’s list? What strengths will pursuing those goals uncover within you?
It is a perfect possibility to compassionately reevaluate last year’s life, habits, and choices. Did your beliefs and actions bring more peace to you and those surrounding you? Did they expand joy and fulfillment? Do you create meaningful experiences? The goal of reflection is always to reconnect with what you are about and notice where you’ve been. By looking backward, we can opt to “turn the page” on which we will no longer desire, and move forward in a heartfelt direction.
Year End Questions
As we end the year, it seems particularly fitting to devote serious amounts of reflecting on the Merry Christmas Wishes and where we discover ourselves because the new beginning is upon us. We revisit the last to achieve some insight into the near future. An honest, non-judgmental self-analysis can be advantageous to get a clear picture of what was. The subsequent questions can stimulate your thinking with this process. Reflect upon your options, the way you felt, what you liked, what you didn’t, and everything you learned. Take a look at yourself along with your knowledge about as much objectivity (love) when you can. You alone are responsible for your attitude, your choices, your focus, and making your dreams reality. You can, to your astonishing degree, create the life you desire. Make use of power and choose well.
